Obedience

Obedience trials are rewarding activities for both dog and handler. Even the names at each level of competition reflect the working bond between the dog and its handler:
  • Companion Dog (CD)
  • Companion Dog Excellent (CDX)
  • Utility Dog (UD)
  • Utility Dog Excellent (UDX)
The crowning achievement for an obedience dog is the Obedience Trial Champion (OTCH) title. To win this title a dog must have won:
  • 100 points
  • one first place Open B
  • one first place Utility
  • a third first place ribbon in either class
First places must be awarded by 3 different judges and the must be earned all-breed events.  The objective of obedience is to produce dogs that are trained to behave in the home, in public and in the company of other dogs. A well-behaved dog is a credit to the sport of obedience at all times and under all conditions. The lessons learned in obedience lead to a great home companion, and also form the basis for every aspect of dog competition, whether in the field, agility scent work, dock diving, or any other sport you choose to pursue.   For more information please contact Sue Levine at Dogluvers@att.net

Rally Obedience

Rally is a form of obedience in which the dog and handler proceed at their own pace through a course designated by the judges. The team of dog and handler moves continuously at a brisk pace with the dog under control at the handler’s left side. Teamwork is the key between the dog and handler both during the test. After the judge’s “Forward” order, the team is on its own to complete the entire sequence of numbered signs correctly.

Unlike Obedience, communication from the handler to the dog is encouraged and not penalized. Rally provides a steppingstone from the AKC Canine Good Citizen® (CGC) program to obedience or agility competition, both for dogs and handlers. Rally is fun and enjoyed by handler and dog at all levels of competition.

Rally Titles include: Rally Novice, Rally Advances, Rally Excellent and Rally Advanced Excellent
