About Us

The Long Island Golden Retriever Club was founded in 1962 by a small group of Golden owners who trained their dogs and wanted to promote the accomplishments of their dogs in the field and the show ring. Since that time, our goal has been to promote one of America’s favorite dog breeds.

We have a love for dogs and the Golden Retriever in particular. We make it our mission to help strengthen the bond with your pet and provide the activities they crave. You will find us at dog shows, obedience trials, agility trials, scent work trials, dock diving events, and hunt tests. We are constantly with our dogs, training them for something. We are always looking for another activity, because Goldens, like people, can get bored without something to keep them busy. They want something to do, most of all they want to please us.

Our members participate in many activities such as:

  • agility
  • breed conformation
  • field
  • obedience
  • rally
  • scent work
  • dock diving
  • pet therapy

If you love your Golden and are interested in doing something fun with your dog, we encourage you to join us in one of our many activities.  The club provides a social network of like-minded people who can connect you with trainers and provide support to you as you grow with your Golden!  The club also host several social events during the year including our Awards dinner where we recognize our members and their dogs for their accomplishments, and our “Howliday” dinner, where we celebrate the holidays, and hold our annual elections.
